About JEDI: Action Plan: Employment

    Strategic Direction: to identify ways of increasing Aboriginal workforce participation in public and private sectors and to explore new approaches by identifying traditional obstacles and ways of alleviating them.

Activities

    1)Development of a communication strategy (EP)

      Objective:

      • to create a greater awareness of programs and employment opportunities amongst Aboriginal people
      • to ensure effective distribution/communication of information

    2) Facilitate public and private sector information sessions (EP)

      Objective:

      • to advocate for increased representation of Aboriginal people within the private/public workforce
      • to support and advocate for initiatives which will facilitate meaningful employment opportunities

    3) Monitor baseline of the NB Aboriginal federal/provincial workforce (EP)

      Objective:

      • to measure progress of Aboriginal representation within the NB federal/provincial workforce
      • to provide foundation for continuous evaluation

    4) Develop educational strategy (EP)

      Objective:

      • to advocate for support services which promote/enhance literacy, numeracy and science curriculum for Aboriginal students
      • to advocate for the promotion of tools which promote career development and exploration for Aboriginal students

    5) Identification of future employment opportunities (EP)

      Objective:

      • to create awareness of future employment needs
      • to identify training gaps
      • to assist in the preparation of candidates
      • to identify opportunities for Aboriginal persons with disabilities

    6) Monitor progress of the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) (EP)

      Objective:

      • to ensure the AES remains on the provincial agenda
      • to provide advice and support, when requested, in the implementation of the AES

    7) Develop youth strategy

      Objective:

      • to enhance youth awareness and uptake of programs and services
      • to encourage participation at provincial and national groups/forums
