In Honour of Elder Gwen Bear

It is with sincerest regret that I write to inform you of the sudden passing of Elder Gwen Bear, Wolastok (Maliseet) from Tobique First Nation.

For those that may not have known Gwen, she was the Elder in Residence at the University of New Brunswick and held a lifelong commitment to education and cultural preservation of our Skicinuwok/L’nu (original peoples).

Gwen has been a huge support to the Joint Economic Development Initiative Inc. and has guided us in plenary sessions, project launches and in developing curriculum.  No task was too big or too small for Gwen to get involved in; if other’s felt that her guidance would lend clarity to a process or project she would modestly oblige and be there to assist, adding not only insight and integrity to what it was that you were doing but also filling a room with laughter and positive energy.

In the spirit of Gwen’s giving nature, we share with you one of the many photos of Gwen's contributions.

Respectfully,

Alex Dedam

Chair, Joint Economic Development Initiative
